G By Free Fall Apparatus
This apparatus is used to determine the value of acceleration due to gravity g by dropping a steel ball from certain know distance from an initial point. The distance traveled by the steel ball is measured from the meter scale printed at the side of the path. An electromagnet release is provided to drop the steel ball and very precise and good resolution timer starts counting the time in seconds and stops when the ball passes through the optical gate. The reading is stored in nonvolatile memory of the timer. By getting the, values of distance traveled and time of travel the acceleration due to gravity is determined and verified with its true value i.e. 9.8m/s.
